As Louisville focuses on growing 21st Century Jobs while increasing educational attainment, GLP is examining the types of degrees and jobs that are most critical to that growth. The 2013 Competitive City Report illustrates the impact Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education and jobs have in the Innovation Economy and how Louisville compares among its 14 peer cities. Data show there are greater economic effects within a city when there are higher numbers of STEM workers, including lower unemployment rates, higher incomes, and less income inequality. The content contained in this report shows Louisvilleā€™s areas of strength and opportunity in STEM education and workforce as we work to advance long-term progress and increase our competitiveness in the 21st Century Economy.
